Cambridge City
recruitment microsite
Welcome to our recruitment microsite and thank you for your interest in the role of Assistant Director: People & Change at Cambridge City Council.
Cambridge is a world-class city – home to cutting-edge research, global tech and life sciences, and vibrant, diverse communities. It’s a place of ambition and opportunity and we want our Council to reflect that same energy.
We are at a pivotal moment. Local Government Reorganisation is on the horizon, and we are reshaping how we work to deliver even greater impact for our residents and communities. Central to this is how we lead, develop, and support our people – because they are the key to delivering our city’s ambitions.
That’s where you come in.
As Assistant Director: People & Change, you will be the Council’s champion for our workforce – driving wellbeing, talent, and organisational culture while leading strategic change across the organisation.
Working closely with senior colleagues you will provide corporate leadership on people, organisational development and change. You will be shaping how we attract, retain, and develop talent, while embedding a culture of high performance and innovation. You will also ensure strong governance and accountability across your portfolio, including resourcing and retention, HR, organisational development, learning, wellbeing, health and safety, emergency planning, strategic change, business intelligence and performance.
Above all, this is a leadership role that demands more than management. It is about inspiring and empowering teams, delivering outstanding outcomes and preparing the Council for the opportunities and challenges of local government reorganisation. To succeed, you will need to embody and promote our values – being collaborative in your approach, courageous in leading change, compassionate in supporting our people and accountable for delivering meaningful results.
This is a unique opportunity for a trusted and collaborative leader who can bring steadiness, creativity, and vision – someone who will guide our people with confidence, support our organisation through change, and help us deliver the best possible outcomes for the city of Cambridge.
If that sounds like you, we can’t wait to hear from you.
